State of Ohio V. Peterson

CHARGE(S): Aggravated Theft, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2913.02(A)(3), a first degree felony; Money Laundering, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 1315.55(A)(1)

POTENTIAL PUNISHMENT: 10 years in the Ohio Department of Corrections, loss of charter school

VENUE: Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, Cleveland, Ohio

ALLEGATIONS Dayton, Ohio resident and charter school operator conspired with others to launder 1.8 million dollars from taxpayer supported Cleveland, Ohio charter school to "shell" companies that Defendant and others had an undisclosed ownership and/or financial interest in.

RESULT: Defendant plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of having an unlawful interest in a public contract in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2921.42(A)(4), a first degree misdemeanor. Defendant was ordered to pay court costs, received no jail time and was ordered to be on non-reporting probation for six months. The non-reporting probation was terminated the day of sentencing after Defendant made payment of $139.00 in Court costs.
